Aftermath of Book Release

It sure feels like it was yesterday when I started writing my book. It took seven years to get it finished and published (in its Spanish version available here).

An immense feeling of satisfaction and achievement surrounds me, as well as the need to take a break from the project, which means that ongoing work in the English version will be on hold for a while. I still want to keep 2023 as a target for release, and I will do my best to make it happen. However I feel that I need to clear my mind and also collect some much needed feedback from the Spanish version, which I could be able to use for a potential second edition, as well as the first edition of the English version.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout the project, and thank you to everyone who has purchased a copy of my book and allowing themselves to dive into my little baby.

As always, I will keep everyone posted.

Atlanta Braves – World Series Winners!

Congratulations for the Atlanta Braves for winning the World Series after defeating the Houston Astros four games to two.

It was their fourth World Series title in the franchise’s history and their first since 1995 back when the Maddux / Glavine / Smoltz combination led them over the Cleveland Indians. To think they were so close to winning back-to-back championships when they let the New York Yankees stage a comeback after being up by two games to one, and 6 runs to 0 in the fourth game.

Malignant

I went to see this film based on a hunch that it would be something different, and I was not dissapointed. Two things stood out to me:

  1. The outdoors establishing shot of the house where most of the main events take place in the film, shows a victorian two-floor 1,100 sq.ft. structure. Yet, the inside takes of the house show rooms that are so spacious it seems like it is a 7,000 sq.ft. mansion with so much spare space, you could hold a 300-guest party in it.
  2. During a particular scene near the end of the second act, two of the characters are driving to an old and abandoned mental institution. They have any available spot to park, yet somehow they choose to park their car at the very borderline of an edge just a few inches away from a free fall that would have sent them down about 1,000 feet.

What an interesting film! Or should I say, prank played by James Wan?

Well, Djokovic tried.

While Medvedev put on a superb display, I do feel that occasion got too much into Novak’s head and he froze. Had the record not been at stake, he probably would have fared better.

US Open and Djokovic’s Calendar Year Grand Slam

The fourth and last major of the year begins in two weeks, and all eyes are on Novak Djokovic as he aims to become the first player to win all four majors during a calendar year since Steffi Graff achived it in 1988 and Rod Laver on the men’s side in 1969. Will hesucceed?

Novak is the best player on the tour period. When he is playing at one hundred percent of his powers, nobody can stop him. Only Nadal has a slight chance of beating him in Roland Garros -but that’s a different story-. So what can happen at Flushing Meadows?

There are three players who can reach the US Open Finals this year: Medvedev, Zverev and Djokovic. Depending on how the bracket turns out, one of them will be knocked out in the semifinals or earlier (they all can’t be on the same side of the bracket). Out of the two new comers, it all comes down to who between Medvedev and Zverev can beat the Djoker. Medvedev has the raw power to hit winners and displace Djokovic, and the attitute of playing with nothing to lose as we have successfully seen employed in the past by Murray and Wawrinka against Djokovic. Zverev, may not have what it takes.

However back in Melbourne we all witnessed how Novak was able to outsmart Medvedev and dismantled his game in a straight-sets victory. The difference is that if they play in New York, Novak will have a lot more pressure, which is something he has proved he is able to deal with.

Long story short, it’s a very close call, but overall I believe the finals will be Medvedev vs. Djokovic, and I am honestly giving a 50-5o chance to both.

June was a bit of a hectic month. I had a few additional commitments to take care of -on top of my job, and the book launch- and also, I had to take a few days off due to health issues.

As I have promised on several occasions, one of my objectives for 2021 is to publish my book. Today, everything seems to point that in the next days I should have a major announcement for you.

Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience

A few days ago, I came across this interesting documentary about Terry Kath, which is hosted by his daughter.

Terry may be one of the most -if not the most- underrated guitarrist in the history of music. He drew praise from almost every one of his contemporaries and he gained the respect of hundreds of thousands of fans.

It’s a very personal documentary, which provides a little insight on Terry as a human being and the driving force he was behind the band Chicago. It’s currently free on YouTube, so feel free to catch it anytime.

A huge loss that left us too soon.

Tennis Clay Court Season

So the tennis european clay court season is on full swing, and as always Rafael Nadal is the man to beat. He looks as strong as usual, as smart as usual, and… as unbeatable as usual.

Everytime Nadal steps on a court, it’s like witnessing history in the making. I remember when I first saw him in 2004, he struck me as somebody who was different. Very different from the rest. Then he won his first Roland Garros by beating Federer in the semi-finals, and Mariano Puerta in the finals… and the legend started.

For how long will the legend go? Who cares. Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts.

Vaccine

A few days ago I got my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

I thought it would be harder to book an appointment, but it turned out to quicker than what I expected. It’s very fortunate that I live in a country where there is an unbelievable logistics to get people vaccinated as soon as possible. It is a true privilege for which I have to be very thankful.
